WELCOME LETTER
August 2019
Dear Parents,
Welcome to Kindergarten at Lusher! I am excited to have this opportunity to be a part of your child’s first year in school. This year, your child will experience a big transition from home to independence, and my goal is to create an environment where every child feels confident to explore and try new things.
About me:
I was born and raised in New Orleans and actually attended Lusher in this same building many years ago. After graduating from NOCCA (in dance) and Ben Franklin, I moved to Colorado for college, receiving my Bachelor’s Degree in Human Development & Family Studies and a Master’s of Arts degree in ElementaryEducation. I have worked with young children and families for the last 21 years in many different ways; as a Special Education assistant, family mentor, home visitor, administrator, and lastly, as a Certified teacher. I returned to New Orleans in 2006 to be closer to family and have taught mostly kindergarten for the last 13 years. I have two lovely daughters. My oldest daughter is entering 5thgrade and my youngest daughter starts 3rdgrade this year. How time flies!
My Philosophy:
Contact
Parent conferences are the best time to discuss your child’s growth and development. In addition, you can use your child’s daily communication folder to send information or email.
I look forward to a great year!
Sincerely,
Ms. Bates

My Philosophy:
- I believe that all children have unique strengths and it is my honor to nurture those strengths and help each child work towards their full potential.
- I believe that children develop and learn in different ways and at different speeds.
- I believe that children learn best when they can participate in hands-on activities and have some choice to direct their own learning.
- I believe that I am only a guide and partner when it comes to your child’s success in school. It takes collaboration between all of us (parent, teacher, and child) for the best outcome.
- And lastly, along with academics, teaching your child how to get along in a group and how to voice their needs and frustrations in an appropriate way are my top priorities for this school year.
